Got our first paying customer yesterday after months of signups and zero revenue. Some honest notes. Building a backend platform for React/Next.js SaaS founders (auth, billing, workspaces, RBAC, feature flags, webhooks, etc. as one npm install, BYO Stripe, no revenue cut). Two brothers, closed source, no funding. Numbers up to yesterday: 100+ signups, 0 paying customers, months of build-in-public posting. Yesterday: first sale, $99/month plan. What I actually learned: 1. Distribution was never the bottleneck. Signups were fine. Activation was the problem - people bounced at the org-creation step before seeing any value. Fixing that mattered more than every post combined. 2. One paying customer is worth more than every impression we got before it. Not because of the money. Because it's the first evidence a stranger will pay for this specific thing. 3. Staying paid-only was the right call. Free tiers would have given us more signups and the same zero. Not calling this traction. Calling it proof the market exists. Second customer is the next milestone. Happy to answer questions on the stack, pricing, or the activation fix.
