A year ago I built my first app. It took 1,723 commits. It was an inventory management app called Stckr. You'd stick a QR code on something you own, scan it, and your phone would pull up the manual, the receipts and when it was next due a service. I worked on it for 81 days. Nearly half the commits were fixes, and I rolled the whole thing back 66 times when something broke. Getting a scanned QR code to open the app on the right item took weeks. Getting Google sign-in to work took 34 commits over two days. Today I could build it in an afternoon. I wouldn't swap those 81 days though. Doing every piece by hand taught me how apps actually fit together. A year later I've launched my first profitable product, and I'm about to hit £1,000 MRR for the first time.
